Teachers' Insurance Plan Of NJ Provides Grant To Edison School Teacher

Red Bank, NJ - Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ awarded Louise Lippe, a second grade teacher at Martin Luther King Elementary School in Edison, a $1,000 grant for her Garden Club. Lippe applied for the grant as part of the auto insurer's Quotes for Cash program, a unique school fundraising initiative championed by Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ.

"We strive to be more than just an insurance company," stated Marc Buro, President of Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ. "By partnering with schools and school districts across the state, we stay closely tied to our customers and work to understand their needs as educators. That's why we award grants as part of Quotes for Cash program; to help enrich the classroom experience and to bring value to our community above and beyond our special auto insurance product," said Marc Buro.

The garden will be cared for throughout the year and through the summer by students in the Gardening Club. Vegetables and herbs harvested from the garden are donated to the Hands of Hope Food Bank. The garden integrates classroom curriculum in a hands-on project for students interested in science, math, nutrition, health -- and being active in the community.

"I want to thank Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ for supporting educators across the state. We try to think outside the box at Martin Luther King Elementary, and Ms. Lippe always does just that. You can see the magic in her garden. The lessons learned by her young gardeners will last a lifetime," Diane Wilton, Principal of Martin Luther King Elementary, said.

"As an auto insurer, providing great value and exceptional service to the New Jersey education community is what we do every day. But what makes our jobs that much more special are days like today, when we are able to make a difference in a teacher's life and in turn the kids in the classroom. You just have to spend a few minutes with Ms. Lippe to recognize what an exceptional educator she is and how supporting one of her enrichment programs will have a wonderful ripple effect through her class room and throughout the greater community," Buro said.

Through Quotes for Cash, money is donated into a fund each time a school employee of a participating school or district receives a quote on NJ auto insurance with Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ. For districts that are involved, there is an additional component that includes scholarships and grants. During the 2007-2008 school year the program generated more than $22,000 for local schools. Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ has more 60 participating districts throughout the state.
